The French government asked local carmakers to build a vehicle with fuel consumption of 2 liters per 100 kilometers (141 mpg UK) by the year 2020.
Hence, Renault has announced that it will preview a concept car meeting the requirements of the government and preview it at the Paris Motor Show.
The design boss of Renault confirmed the same to British magazine Autocar. He also said that the concept will feature an all-new platform.
“It doesn’t have an existing platform, because the existing platform would be too heavy. To be able to get to these numbers you need a dramatic weight reduction and a dramatic aerodynamic improvement,” said van den Acker.
Notably, Volkswagen’s 1-liter car has already hit production. The XL1 is equipped with a 2-cylinder TDI diesel hybrid.
