Indian automaker Mahindra and Mahindra rules the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment in the country. Well, the piece of news is that the Mahindra will reportedly be joining the bandwagon of big brands Audi, Google, Mercedes Benz, Tesla and BMW to become the latest automaker working on self-driving cars!
Self-driving cars are capable of driving around without manual inputs. Mahindra’s electric car Reva has reportedly been chosen as the first trim for this technology.
“We have already begun experiments in our R&D facility in Bengaluru. Once we get approvals from the respective governments, we’ll start testing these cars on road,” a company source said.
“Indian roads are too crowded to test driverless cars at the moment. Currently, our focus is on the US,
Europe and South-East Asian markets. Once these experiments are successful, we might start road tests in India as well,” another company source said.
Let’s wait for official confirmation on the same from Mahindra and Mahindra.
