Bertone-Designed Aston Martin fetches record price

1961 Bertone Jet

The unique DB4 GT-based Bertone Jet has fetched £3,249,500 (€3,793,336 / $4,905,445) at Bonhams’ annual sale in Newport Pagnell, England to become the most expensive Aston Martin sold ever at an auction.

The Bertone Jet made its debut at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Giorgetto Giugiaro designed it while he was working for Gruppo Bertone.

The Bertone Jet was based on the Aston Martin DB4 GT, the last DB4 GT to be built, and debuted in 1960 to compete Ferrari’s 250 GT race car.

The Bertone Jet has many accolades in its kitty won in prestigious automotive events like the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este or the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

A DB5 model driven by Sean Connery in the “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball” James Bond motion pictures was the last Aston Martin to sell for over $4 million.

It fetched $4.1 million in 2010.
