The new 5th generation Audi A4 was first unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016, and is expected to arrive in the market in India by second half of this year. This new model is conservatively styled, mid-sized and a closer look reveals that not a single part has been carried over from the previous model. This will feature three body styles i.e. a sedan, a wagon and an all-road variant which would follow later.
It is the most economical German mid-sized sedan with better comfort and safety equipments. Stepping inside- you will be astonished by the changes that have been brought, it is a completely different world. In this segment of cars it will probably set a new bench-mark. With horizontal, angular lines extremely narrow gaps, metal décor it is completely eye pleasing and a design revelation. The body and engineering is all new and is very conservatively done. It stands next to the more sophisticated but less techno-futuristic Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The new Audi A4 has grown 25mm longer, 16mm wider and the same height as its predecessor. Claims the A4’s weight has been reduced by 120 kg. Greater attention has been given to aerodynamics, including the implementation of largely flat undertray and thorough sculpturing in the region of the rear end, means the Audi is the most aerodynamic of its rivals.
The Audi’s instrument cluster, available as a full TFT module, looks as futuristic as the center screen, which is now fixed because once the car is started, everyone leaves it up in any case, and a motorized screen would have been almost ineffectual to fit into the A4’s super-slim dashboard.
It has a high-class interior which marks a step further in technology and modernism. It has not ignored its power plays. Even the Europe- only 1.4 TFSI engine, a four-banger with just 150 horsepower, manages to move the A4 with swiftness. Its low weight and engineering excellence leaves it zippier.
This model has much more to offer- new electronics architecture, number of assistance and infotainment systems. The full width air vents look almost as the one in 1970s Audi 100/ 5000 C2, and the air conditioning interface with is designed to resemble a 1970s in-car stereo system.
Engine and power
The base engine there will be the 2.0-litre TFSI four with 190 horsepower, and there is an up level version with 252 horsepower. Audi’s horses are agile and ever-present, and they work extremely well with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, an ultra-quick gearbox customized for sporty driving. This 190 bhp version is expected to come to India as well.
There will be odd versions as well- the 354bhp S4, powered by twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6, and a 190 horsepower 2.0litre TDI- a clean and efficient engine. It has front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. It is comfortable and you can travel long distance without ever feeling tired or worn out.
The new model is extremely quiet and its interior noise level matches to that of A8. The exterior mirrors are designed in such a way that they create zero wind noise. BMW and Mercedes-Benz have ditched Bang&Olufsen in order to work with other hi-fi experts, but this Audi sticks with the Danes showing incredible results. The 3D sound and aloof B&O design theme is first class and complements the interior of this new model. It has a modest exterior hidden an upmarket and cutting edge technology.
This world class sedan excels in so many ways that it is worth having a look at. It might be launched sometime in November. So you can go for it because it is upgraded, swift and stylish. Happy driving!
