Nissan dominated the motorsports world in 1994 by registering wins at Mans, Daytona and Sebring with legendary racer Steve Millen behind the wheel. Now, Nissan’s team and racecar will race in August at the 2014 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion to celebrate 20 years since the IMSA GTS Championship season.
The No. 75 and No. 76 Nissan 300ZX racecars were fielded that season. Millen drove the No. 75 to victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring, while he cruised the No. 76 car at the 24 Hours of Daytona.
The Le Mans-winning racecar also won the GTS class championship that year.
Millen will drive his old racecar during the Monterey weekend. As many as 550 racecars will be participating in the event, which will witness Nissan team taking part in Group 6B, dedicated to cars from the 1981-1990 FIA Mfg. Championship and IMSA GTP and GTO divisions.
“The past 20 years have flown by like they were 24 hours, so getting back behind the wheel of the No. 75 with the support of many of the original team members will be like stepping into a time machine. People might forget that this car was so dominant in 1994 that IMSA banned its twin-turbo V6 engine. I think we’ve got a great chance to bring it into Victory Lane one more time against some other amazing race cars at Laguna Seca. I can’t wait,” said Millen.
